Insight into web traffic and mobile device retail price
For the first time 51Degrees brings insight into the retail price of mobile and tablet devices accessing the web. Using US dollar pricing the most popular mobile devices (excluding iPhone and iPad) have been classified using their United States SIM free launch retail price into bands between $50 and $999. The following chart shows the percentage of web traffic from UK phones and tablets devices in August 2014 by price band.
The most popular price bands for mobile devices are: 150 - 199.99, 300.00 - 349.99, 600.00 - 699.99 and 800.00 - 899.99 USD.
When mobile phones are removed and only tablets are included the change is even more remarkable. The following chart shows the percentage of web traffic from UK tablets in August 2014 by price band.
75% of all tablet web traffic in the UK fell into either the 150.00 - 199.99 USD price band or the 300.00 - 349.99 USD price band.
Vendors such as Tesco have a single device dominating a single price band. Other vendors like Sony, Amazon and Samsung have devices falling into three or more price bands.
