Event MWC Industry News

Let’s discuss the news from Lenovo and Alcatel

After a shaky 2020, Mobile World Congress was back in full swing for their 2021 event in Barcelona. Despite the obvious challenges of hosting an international event during a global pandemic, MWC managed to safely hold the event while bringing us the latest mobile news.

We couldn’t attend the event in person this year, but that didn’t stop us from watching the updates virtually from home. The event was a little quieter than usual but talk on 5G and an appearance from Elon Musk helped to keep up the momentum. But for us, the most exciting news from MWC was the new device announcements.

Lenovo

This year, the biggest device announcements were courtesy of Lenovo, who announced five new tablets.

The Lenovo Tab M7 Gen 3 is significantly faster with a longer battery life than its predecessor. And the Lenovo Tab M8 Gen 3 focuses on HD-quality visuals without compromising battery life. Both tablets have a TDDI LCD display.

Following on is the Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 and Yoga Tab 13. The Yoga Tab 11 has an 11-inch IPS display and MediaTek Octa-core processor. On the other hand, the Yoga Tab 13 has a 13-inch LTPS display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon Octa-core processor. These are the higher end products designed for quality, even on the go.

And finally, we have the Lenovo Tab P11 Plus. The tablet has an 11-inch TDDI IPS display, Octa-Core processor, and epic battery life.

For all the Lenovo devices announced at MWC, Lenovo have published the device specifications on their website. This allows the 51Degrees Data Team to start populating our device database ready for when the new devices are released to the market.

Alcatel

TCL announced two new devices to add to its Alcatel 1 Series – the Alcatel 1 (2021) and the Alcatel 1L Pro.

The Alcatel 1 (2021) provides tools that run smarter and faster with a compact 5-inch display and Quadcore processor. And the Alcatel 1L Pro is designed as a level up, with a larger IPS display and Octa-core processor for a better performance.

Again, Alcatel have made our life just that little bit easier by publishing the specifications for these new devices online. We are already working on adding these device profiles to our database.

Why does this matter?

When a new device is announced (whether it’s a laptop, mobile, smartwatch, or anything else), we need to update our device database accordingly. This database is at the heart of 51Degrees – without it, we wouldn’t be able to provide you with exceptional optimization based on the device, or in-depth insights into what is used to access your website.

If a new device has its official specifications published prior to its release, we work quickly to add them to our database. If you want to put our device database to the test, you can trial our Device Detection for free.
