Samsung Update Device Data

Galaxy J1 Ace & Galaxy S5 Neo

This week it is Samsung's turn to have a couple of their latest mobile devices under the microscope. Samsung was originally founded in 1938 as a trading company and over the next three decades the group diversified into areas such as food processing, textiles, insurance, securities and retail, with Samsung entering the electronics industry in the late 1960s. Samsung is a South Korean multinational conglomerate company headquartered in Samsung Town, Seoul, and is the largest South Korean business conglomerate and the world's largest mobile handset manufacturer.

Samsung Galaxy J1 Ace

Samsung's current cheapest smartphone, the Galaxy J1, has just received a new variant in the form of the Galaxy J1 Ace. The smartphone will come shipped with Android 4.4 Kikat installed rather than the newer Android 5 Lollipop versions. Display wise there's a 4.3 inch screen, naturally using Super AMOLED technology as is seen on almost all Samsung handsets. Resolution clocks in at 480 x 800 pixels and there is 24 bits per each of those pixels.

As this is a budget friendly device there is not going to be a whole lot of power under the hood, what you do get is a dual-core 1.3GHz CPU, 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage, with the option to expand this up to 128GB more via the microSD expansion slot. Juicing all this is a 1900mAh removable battery which Samsung claim will be enough for up to 10 hours of standby time.

Other features include a 5MP rear camera with LED flash, 2MP front snapper, GPS and GLONASS navigation support, Bluetooth 4.0 +A2DP, accelerometer and proximity sensors and a single micro SIM card slot. The Galaxy J1 Ace also has 4G capability via the FDD-LTE networks, although this varies depending on the exact model number available in your area. It is available now in select regions for less than $100 and comes in two colour options, black or white.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo

There have been leaks and rumours about a potential Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo since last year, now it's finally official. Samsung have re-imagined their previous generations flagship the Galaxy S5 and made a few improvements. The display has been kept the same, a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED screen with full HD resolution, 1920 x 1080, and 24 bits per pixel. The smartphone will ship with the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop with Samsung's TouchWiz interface changes.

One of the biggest differences when comparing the new Galaxy S5 Neo to the old Galaxy S5 is a chipset change. The original model featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and now Samsung has switched to using its own octa-core Exynos chipset running at 1.6GHz. The front camera has also got an upgrade, going from 2-megapixels to 5-megapixels, keeping in line with the current demand for better quality selfies which other mid-range devices already provide.

The USB 3.0 charging port has been replaced by USB 2.0 and the waterproof flap that was used to seal the port is gone, although the device still retains the IP67 certification. Rounding out the features is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, heart rate monitor and a 2,800mAh replaceable battery. The Galaxy S5 Neo is available in Black, Dark Blue, Gold, and Silver color variants and will burn a hole in your wallet to the tune of $480.
