This week 80 new profiles have been added to the device detection database, among them is Microsoft's hotly awaited next generation console Xbox One. scheduled for release across North America, several European markets, Australia, and New Zealand on November 22, 2013, with release in Japan and the remaining European markets due in 2014.
The Xbox One is powered by an AMD "Jaguar" Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) with two quad-core modules totaling eight x86-64 cores clocked at 1.75 GHz and 8 GB of DDR3 RAM. Xbox One will support 4K resolution video output, 7.1 surround sound and will ship with an updated version of Kinect for motion tracking and voice recognition.
First-party titles unveiled for Xbox One include Forza Motorsport 5, Ryse: Son of Rome, a revival of Killer Instinct and Project Spark. There is no native backward compatibility with original Xbox or Xbox 360 games but there is the possibility that Microsoft could offer backward compatibility with older titles through a cloud gaming system in the future.
This week also brings us the addition of the Xperia Z1f, manufactured by Sony and currently exclusive to DoCoMo and the Japanese market. The Xperia Z1f is the little brother of the popular Xperia Z1 and often referred to as the Xperia Z1 Mini.
Other vendors 'mini' versions of the respective flagships such as the HTC One Mini and Galaxy S4 Mini have diluted hardware specifications compared to their originating devices. The Xperia Z1f bucks this trend and is equipped with the same Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2.2GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU, 2GB RAM and Adreno 330 GPU that you'll find on the larger Xperia Z1.
Obviously being a mini the screen is smaller at 4.3" rather than the 5" of its bigger brother, as such a smaller form factor will have a price to pay. There is a drop in battery power, from 3000mAh to 2300mAh, but as the resolution is 720p rather than 1080p the reduced battery power is not going to have any noticeable effect. All other features such as the 20.7 MP camera with large Exmoor sensor, Triluminous display technology and resistance to dust and water with an IP58 rating are included, making this the first 'mini' flagship to have almost the same hardware and features as its much larger sibling.
The international version with the model number D5503 is expected to be announced soon, with various rumors pointing at a release somewhere between the 26th November 2013 and early 2014.
Other devices added this week include the ZTE Grand S Flex and the Nokia Lumia 1320, which is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2014.
