Update LG Device Data

LGV10

This week we investigate the new LG V10, the first handset coming from LG's new V series device lineup. The LG V10 smartphone is now finally available in European markets after a short exclusive period in South Korea, LG's home country.

The LG G and the G Flex series have been LG's flagship devices for a while, serving the consumer market in two sizes. With the unveiling of the LG V10 we're witnessing a one flagship to rule them all strategy. The V10 has previously been described by the mobile industry as a "G4 on steroids". We've not seen anything so far that would challenge that description, but lets take a closer look and see what's earnt it that moniker.

The first signature feature of the V10 is the dual selfie camera, capable of wide 120° shots for group selfies. The other signature feature is a small secondary display, which is always on - for access to notifications and shortcuts at a glance. Turning to the numbers, the V10's primary display is 5.7 inches with QHD resolution, giving this smartphone a whopping 515ppi. The always on secondary display is a 2.1 inch line display with 1040 x 160 pixel resolution, situated just above the primary display.

Internally the V10 presents us with a Snapdragon 808 chipset with a dual-core Cortex-A57 running at 1.82GHz + quad-core Cortex-A53 at 1.44GHz, Adreno 418 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage which can be further expanded via the built in microSD card slot. All good, with one minor caveat, people buy flagship devices because they want the best that's currently on offer and LG have decided not to use the best chipset currently on offer; some will find this disappointing.

Photography wise the V10 is no slouch, you get a 16MP rear camera with a 1/2.6" sensor and f/1.8 aperture, with features including optical image stabilization, laser autofocus and 2160p video capture. Then there's the dual 5MP selfie cameras, one with an 80° lens and one with 120°. Other features include a fingerprint sensor, Cat. 6 LTE support, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/GLONASS, NFC, SlimPort 4K and a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0.

The LG V10 has both a stainless steel body and Dura Skin cover which has been tested against shock-proof standards (MIL-STD-810G). However, whilst the V10 can handle a tumble it doesn't have an Ingress Protection rating so can't handle any water. The LG V10 is available now, ships out of the box with Android 5.1 Lollipop and LG's Optimus UI, and will cost you about £500 for a SIM free version.
