Update Device Data

Titanium 70c and 50 Helium +

This week we take a quick look at two of the newest Archos mobile devices. Archos is a French electronics company established in 1988 which manufactures tablets, smartphones, portable media players and data storage devices. The name is an anagram of the last name of their founder Henri Crohas and it is also the Greek word for 'master'. The company's slogan's have been "Think Smaller", "On The Go" and the currently used "Entertainment your way". All the devices in this article can be detected with our latest data file update.

Archos 70c Titanium

The very first Archos Tablet was a 9" device launched on October 22, 2009, running Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system and simply named the Archos 9. Almost 6 years later we're going to look at one of their newest tablets, the Archos 70c Titanium. This tablet boasts a 7 inch In Plane Switching(IPS) capactive touch screen display with a 1024 x 600 resolution and 24 bits per pixel and runs on the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

Inside the device there is a RK3026 chipset manufactured by Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics, this contains a dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU operating at 1.0GHz and a Mali-400 MP2 GPU. Memory wise we get 512MB RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by a further 32GB via a MicroSD expansion slot. There's a 2500mAh battery which is quite small for a 7 inch tablet, it's common to see 4-5 inch smartphones with this capacity, thus the battery life isn't going to win any awards.

If you're looking for a tablet with good photography capability you won't find it here as the 70c Titanium doesn't have a rear camera and the front facing selfie camera only clocks in at 0.3MP. Connectivity wise the device is Wi-Fi only and lacks GPS support, you do however get Micro-USB On the Go(OTG) and headphone ports and Bluetooth 3.0. The Archos 70c Titanium competes with the Nokia X Plus and LG L60i, it costs about $130 and is available in one colour, white.

Archos 50 Helium +

Archos have not been in the smartphone business for long, in fact the first Archos smartphones appeared just two years ago in 2013, since then there has been a considerable push in this market and Archos now offer over eight different smartphone brands named after various elements, including Titanium, Platinum, Neon, Xenon, Cesium, Oxygen, Helium, and Diamond. Today we're going to focus on the new budget friendly 4G LTE enabled Archos 50 Helium +.

The 50 Helium + has a 5.0" IPS display, hence the '50' in the name and the resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels which equates to 293ppi. The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek 6735P chipset running quad-core Cortex-A53's at 1.0GHz paired with a Mali-T720 GPU from ARM Holdings. There's 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and a MicroSD expansion slot which can accept a 64GB card. The device is powered via a 2000mAh removable battery, again it's a slighty small capacity but not tragically so.

A healthy 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera complete the photo options. Connectivity includes GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro USB OTG and 4G LTE thanks to the new MediaTek chipset. Sensors include an accelerometer, proximity and ambient light. The Archos 50 Helium + has only just been released and will set you back about $110, all in all it makes a good choice to get 4G LTE and Android 5.1 Lollipop on the cheap.
