There was a lot of hype surrounding the latest Apple event, with a lot of chatter about the new iPhone 13
In a relatively subdued event, Apple unveiled four new iPhones: the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Fans of the iPad were not left out either, as two new models were announced: a 10.2-inch iPad (2021) and 8.3-inch iPad Mini (2021).
When you consider Apple’s popularity among tech users, whenever Apple announce a new device, we sit up and listen. With each release, our real-time data solution is updated to provide current device metrics such as screen resolution, processing power, and operating system. These metrics are the keys that our customers use to unlock their digital potential.
Some of the key upgrades from this week’s Apple event include larger battery sizes, faster components, and power optimizations. However, as with most iPhone ranges, each device model within the range have their own improvements.
iPhone 13
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have been redesigned both inside and out, featuring a durable flat-edge design and an elegant aluminum frame. The 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch displays feature the Apple-exclusive Ceramic Shield on the front which is supposedly tougher than any smartphone glass available.
The iPhone 13 Pro display now supports an even brighter screen, ideal for the sunny outdoors. The cameras also received an upgrade with a wider aperture and a new telephoto lens with a 77mm focal length and 3x optical zoom. It’s clear to see that a powerful camera (or two, or even three!) is important for the latest generation of smartphones.
The A15 Bionic chipset
A new chipset was announced too: the A15 Bionic. With this chipset comes two high-performing processing cores and four cores for energy efficiency, resulting in major battery life and speed improvements. iPhone 13 delivers all-day battery life, offering up to two and a half hours more battery life when compared to an iPhone 12.
Let’s not forget about the iPad. Combined with the A15 Bionic chip, the iPad Mini (2021) is as powerful as it is portable. The iPad (2021) is simple to use and versatile. Multitasking on the go is easy and intuitive – you can easily Slide Over or Split View to work with multiple apps at once.
The A15 Bionic chip delivers up to 50% faster graphics performance than the leading competition and, with the Apple Neural Engine, up to 2x faster machine learning.
What else happened at the event?
Despite suggestions that rising costs of components such as microchips would force Apple to raise prices, the company maintained its pricing in the US. Interestingly, prices were reduced for British consumers as the result of a stronger pound.
Additionally, Apple also announced that iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 will be released to the public on 20 September 2021. The new operating system will feature yet another push for privacy, with new opportunities for users to manage their privacy settings. When you combine this with the recently announced App Tracking Transparency feature in April 2021, Apple are really trying to bolster their image as a company that takes privacy seriously.
What's next?
With every new Apple event, we see new devices with performance improvements. Many people are keen to get their hands on the latest Apple devices, and we can’t say that we disagree. As soon as they are released to the public, we will be getting our hands on the devices so that we can update our device database. After all, a robust and accurate device database can only be achieved by keeping it up to date.
