Popular User Agents detected since January 2018
What is a User-Agent?
Every time a website is visited a User-Agent is transmitted, containing information used to determine a user’s device properties. Inside each User-Agent there is a string of text that defines the components that are associated with that device.
Three key components identified in a User-Agent
These components feed into our device combinations database which, at 919,280*, it’s the largest.
- Physical Device (Smartphone, Tablet, Smart TV etc.)
- Operating System (Android, iOS, Windows etc.)
- Web Browser / Application (Facebook, Chrome, Safari etc.)
Example of how Device Detection works
- Request for website received by website or content management system.
- 51Degrees high performance device detection uses finger prints (HTTP headers including user agents) relating to over 919,280* device models, browser and operating system combinations to work out the type of device in less than 1 millisecond.
- Your web site returns a page optimised for the precise screen and device type ensuring maximum performance and the best user experience every time.
Sample of popular User-Agents
The following section contains a sample of popular User-Agents that we have detected since the beginning of January, containing a lot of the well-known devices that were launched at or after Mobile World Congress 2018. They have also been chosen to reflect that the device token provided in the User-Agent is not always indicative of the smartphone model/name.
To see more properties then please use our User-Agent Tester, or if you’re on mobile you can see a snapshot of your device capabilities.

Our database
Over 1.5 million active deployments in virtually every country around the world use our device detection software day in and day out. Our active customer community tells us what they need and we work hard every day to deliver on our promises. Our accuracy comes from our device combinations database - at 919,280* it’s the largest. It’s not locked up in a vault designed for the last decade or getting dusty on a shelf - it’s checked and updated every day in line with new devices that are launched in the market worldwide every week. Our performance speeds are awesome too. Capable of more than 22 million detections a second we're the fastest available.
